I looked again to the number that I found from one of the
websites. 802-5678-9870. No one picked up the phone. I tried to call that
number two days ago several times. The address was clearly written in my note.
“I don’t think so I wrote the wrong number.” I shrugged my
shoulder.
“Let me see.” My host family, Jenny, took the note from my
hand. She attempted to assist me by
calling the same number.
“No answer at all.” She spoke to herself.
“Do you have another number?” I shook my head.
I had to leave this house the end of this month and rent
another one before due date of the contract. I had English Academic Course in
this town. It took 45 minutes by bus to get my university from the current city.
It was not really far. But I would not stay longer in this one. I prefer the
apartment that was close to my campus.
That was my dream house. Once I read the written information
in the website, I wanted to rent the room. Prior coming to this country, I
imagined if would have the apartment that have a nice patio off of the kitchen
with fully fenced in back yard. It would be perfect for my life. Then the
established maple trees would make the apartment awesome in the fall.
Until now, the owner never answered my call. I left the
massage in the voice box, expecting they would call me back.
“I think you should find another house.” Jenny suggested to
me.
Should I?
“I will go there.”
“What?” Jenny looked at me so anxious. “If you want, I’ll help you to contact another
number. Let me go get other information."
“No, thanks, Jenny.”
She looked at me again. “I’ll go!”
“Are you sure?” I nodded.
“I’ll take the bus!”
------
105 Pennington Drive.
I knocked the door.
One! Two! The owner was not there.
The last one, I rang the bell and waited someone to answer
it.
The door was opened. I heard the dog barking inside.
“Who?”
The old woman along with her dog was standing in front of
me. Her dog came closer to me and the fawned upon by wagging its tail.
I kept smiling to the woman in front of me. “I am looking
the rental house.” It is 105 Pennington Drive?”
She looked at me deeply.
“Laura! How are you?” I miss you so much. Welcome home,
dear!”
